Learning a choreography as a pair is different from learning alone: there are two people to coordinate, which takes patience. A light routine repeated regularly usually works better than a few long sessions.

Set a time and a space

Pick a moment when you are both rested and a space where you can move freely. Move furniture and loose rugs out of the way. Shoes that slip little help keep things safe.

Break it into small parts

Instead of trying to dance the whole song, work on one sequence at a time. Once a part feels comfortable, join it to the previous one. Progress shows early and motivation stays up.

First without music, then with it

Repeat the steps slowly, counting out loud, and only then add the music. If the tempo feels too fast, slow it down until you feel secure and speed up gradually.

Look after the connection

Posture, hand placement and eye contact matter as much as the steps. Set aside a few minutes to dance with just the frame and the embrace, without worrying about the sequence.

Mistakes are part of it

Stepping on the wrong foot or losing the beat happens to everyone. Laughing and carrying on is part of practice and helps you dance naturally on the day. End each session on a positive note by repeating the section you enjoyed most.

If you need help

If a step will not come together, review the explanations calmly or ask for guidance. Small posture adjustments solve many difficulties.
